Created in 2023 Hands on Texas was founded in partnership with the Texas Association of the Deaf (TAD) to provide direct financial support for their advocacy of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in the state of Texas. Through the creation of a sustainable resale store Hands on Texas aims to turn clothing waste into dollars for change. By focusing on quality control and merchandising we create a shopping experience different from that of your average thrift store.
Since 1883 the Texas Association of the Deaf has advocated, agitated, and litigated for the civil rights of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Texans. Believing in the American values of liberty and justice for all, TAD is constantly working with local and state officials to ensure that the rights of the Deaf community are protected. Through various outreach programs like their mental health awareness initiative TAD ensures that they are aware and can anticipate the current and future needs of their community. Simultaneously, their self-advocacy programs TAD works within the community to ensure the next generation of Deaf leaders are ready for the challenges to come. We are proud to directly support the mission of TAD with every piece of clothing we collect.
